The Apollo Victoria has two seating levels: Stalls and Dress Circle. It’s one of London’s biggest West End theatres, seating over 2,300 people, so where you sit really does affect how the show feels.
The Stalls hold 1,298 seats and give you the closest view of the stage, with the centre rows F to S offering the best sightlines. Row Q has extra legroom thanks to a walkway in front, and the back rows (X to ZC) are further away but come at a reduced price while still giving an unobstructed view.
The Dress Circle holds 1,030 seats and is considered among the best seats in the house. Central rows B to F give a fantastic view with minimal restrictions, and the front section offers a lovely panoramic view of the stage that works well for families. Rear rows are further back but priced lower.
The Apollo Victoria Theatre is right by Victoria Station, one of London’s biggest transport hubs. Victoria tube station (Victoria, District and Circle lines) and Victoria mainline rail station are both just a couple of minutes’ walk away, making this one of the easiest West End theatres to reach.
The Apollo Victoria opened on 15th October 1930 as the New Victoria Cinema, designed by E. Wamsley Lewis with William Edward Trent, and it’s a stunning Grade II* listed Art Deco building, full of concealed lighting and scallop-shell decoration. It closed during the Second World War, came close to being demolished in the 1950s, and found a new life as a rock concert venue in the late 1970s before reopening as a theatre in 1981.
Since then it’s hosted some huge musicals, including The Sound of Music, the roller-skating spectacular Starlight Express (which ran here from 1984 to 2002 and had a dedicated “race track” built through the auditorium), Bombay Dreams and Saturday Night Fever. Since 2006, it’s been the London home of Wicked, which became the 10th longest-running West End show in 2024 and shows no sign of stopping.

Unlike many older West End houses, the Apollo Victoria has just one circle rather than several stacked tiers, and it can be reached by platform lift from the Vauxhall Bridge Road entrance rather than stairs (there’s also a 17-step stair route with handrails, if you prefer). It isn’t a theatre known for a particularly steep or vertiginous circle, though the rake in the rear Stalls does pick up noticeably towards the back. If you’d like extra reassurance, the venue’s access line can confirm seat positions before you book.
Victoria is the nearest tube and mainline rail station, just a couple of minutes’ walk away.
Centre Stalls (rows F-S) and the front and central rows of the Dress Circle (B-F) both give excellent views. Row Q in the Stalls has extra legroom if that’s a priority for you.
Wicked opened at the Apollo Victoria in September 2006 and has been running there ever since, making it one of the longest-running musicals in West End history.
