In the heart of Covent Garden, just off of the Strand is Big Easy the BBQ and Crabshack. Conveniently located by some of the West Ends big theatre’s The Adelphi, The Vaudeville and the Savoy, this is the perfect location for a pre-theatre trip meal.

With a theatre dining menu priced at just £10 for two courses, available Monday-Friday 12pm-6pm and then 10pm until closing, eating at the Big Easy certainly doesn’t need to break the bank. But how’s the food? We tried spicy Voodoo Chicken Wings, Wood Roasted Muscles and Popcorn Shrimp to start and then the steak for the main course. The food was nice but not particularly spectacular. We arrived for lunch when the restaurant opened at 12pm and were the first to be seated. However, after almost two hours we had only just finished our meal and had to mention several times that we really had to leave and pay the bill. In the Big Easy’s defence, they did say that four people had called in sick that day and they were operating with half the staff they should have had. These things can happen but it certainly didn’t help us pre-theatre diners who ended up shovelling down food and having to run to our show.

The Big Easy was having a bad day when I went along to review and so I’ll try to give them their dues. They were friendly and helpful and the food was ok for £10. The toilets were quite a trek to get to and the signs saying ‘you’re nearly there’ went to show just how much of a walk it was to spend a penny! It’s a lovely, spacious restaurant and could make for a great dining experience.
