TOURING THE UK PRIOR TO
WEST END RETURN
FOR CHRISTMAS SEASON AT LEICESTER SQUARE THEATRE
FROM SATURDAY 16 NOVEMBER 2013 – SUNDAY 5 JANUARY 2014
Scamp Theatre & Watford Palace Theatre are delighted to announce the return of Stick Man by Julia Donaldson, touring the UK from October 2013 prior to a West End return for a Christmas Season at Leicester Square Theatre from Saturday 16 November 2013 (press performance Wednesday 20 November, 10.30am).
‘Stick Man lives in the family tree
With his Stick Lady Love
and their stick children three…’
But the world outside the family tree is a dangerous place for Stick Man. A dog wants to play fetch with him, a swan builds a nest with him and he even ends up on a fire! How will Stick Man ever get back to the family tree? Passing through the seasons and culminating in a joyful Christmas celebration, Stick Man is a fantastick show which will delight all branches of the family tree! Touching, funny and utterly original, this enchanting adaptation features three actors and a one-man-band playing a host of colourful characters and animals to magically re-tell Stick Man’s adventures.
Stick Man is adapted from the book by Julia Donaldson with illustrations by Axel Scheffler. Julia Donaldson is a British writer, playwright and performer, the 2011–2013 Children’s Laureate and the prize-winning author of some of the world’s most-loved children’s books, most notably the modern classic “The Gruffalo” which has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Julia is best known for her popular rhyming stories for children, especially those illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which include “The Gruffalo”, “Room on the Broom”, “Stick Man” and “Tiddler and other Terrific Tales”. Their books have sold millions of copies and have been translated into 40 languages. Julia also received an MBE in 2011 for her services to Literature.
Stick Man is created by the award-winning Scamp Theatre, whose stage adaptation is described as ‘wonderfully exuberant and imaginative’ by TimeOut. Scamp Theatre was founded in 2003 by award-winning producers Jennifer Sutherland and Louise Callow, and brings a range of theatrical live performance to audiences of all ages, with an increased focus on adaptation, particularly in children’s literature.
The cast features Richard Kiess, Alex Tosh and Cassie Vallance. The director is Sally Cookson, associate director Mark Kane (who moves to a new branch of the family tree having created the role of Stick Man) with design by Katie Sykes, lighting by Elanor Higgins and music by Benji Bower. Sally Cookson, Katie Sykes and Benji Bower are the creative team behind “Treasure Island” at Bristol Old Vic and the acclaimed “Cinderella” at St James Theatre. Stick Man is produced by Scamp Theatre and Watford Palace Theatre.
