The West End Wilma Awards launched in November 2014, to help celebrate the best of UK Theatre. Nominees are decided every year between West End Wilma and those that review for the website, from all of the shows seen over the past year. The shortlisted nominees are then put out to the theatre going public to vote for the winners.
The Wilma Awards were first held at Freedom Bar in Soho for the first year before moving to the Hippodrome Casino for 2015 and 2016 and then the Prince of Wales Theatre (Delfont Room) in 2017. For 2018 we moved to the Arts Theatre in Covent Garden, more than doubling the capacity of the venue. The last ceremony in 2019 was held at Cafe de Paris in the West End with an audience of over 300 people.
Celebrity guests attending the ceremony over the years have included Mathew Horne, Marisha Wallace, Bonnie Langford, Harriet Thorpe, Beverley Knight, Martina Cole, Tracie Bennett, Eva Noblezada, Lesley Joseph, Sam Bailey, Kerry Ellis, Rachel Tucker, Suzie Mathers, Oliver Savile, Mazz Murray, Gina Murray, Natasha Barnes, Emma Williams, Summer Strallen and many many more!
