Ben Freeman has Tea With Wilma talking about The Rocky Horror Show

Ben Freeman Tea With Wilma

For those who may not be familiar with your work, can you give me a little run down of some of your career highlights so far?
Singing three verses of ‘la la la’ to ‘Oh Little Town of Bethlehem’ when I forgot my words in year seven has definitely stood me in good stead as I have since only once had to do that in a professional show. Other than that please feel free to google me 🙂

You are currently on tour with The Rocky Horror Show. For those who may not be familiar with the story, what is it about and what character do you play?
It’s about aliens, ghouls, clones, castles… oh and a boy and a girl. I play the boy.

The Rocky Horror Show is known for its cult following and audience participation. Have you found yourself being thrown off-track by any of the things crowds have shouted out so far?
They tend to stick to a ‘script’ but once I had someone ringing a single bell and someone else simultaneously baa-ing like a sheep throughout my solo. One of the more obscure moments I have been part of.

There are lots of exciting shows coming to London and around the UK in 2016. What are you most looking forward to seeing?
Showboat. Its bloody brilliant. It does have my missus in it but its one of the best things I’ve ever seen. 25th April chaps!!!

If you could be the opposite sex for the day, what theatre role would you love to have a go at playing?
Glinda. I sing ‘Popular’ in auditions sometime and wish casting directors would understand how good I would be at it. If only I could hit a top E dammit!

Why should people come and see The Rocky Horror show?
They would be utterly foolish not to.

Thanks for having Tea With Wilma

The Rocky Horror show is playing at the New Wimbledon Theatre 29 February – 5 March 2016 and then continues its tour of the UK. Tickets and tour dates
