Someone asked me the other day if I was ‘giving it all up’. Retiring from blogging! “Oh no” I said, “I’ve only just begun!”
2017 is full of promise and very exciting things for westendwilma.com. As you might have read before, I’m in the process of writing a book about my life and love of theatre! It no easy task but I’m working my through it. If anyone knows of any good publishers that might want to publish it then send them in my direction!
I’ve been going to a lot of mid week matinees in January and intend to keep this going in the future. It’s a great opportunity to go around and catch the shows I didn’t manage to personally get to on press nights.
Matinee’s reminds me of why I love theatre. There is no red carpet, no celebrities, no huge bar queues but just a gaggle of people who really want to see a show on a drizzly London afternoon.
There’s something lovely about stepping back from the ‘office politics’ that unfortunately even happen in the theatre industry. Press performances are lovely because you get to see other bloggers and media types that you know and can chat about the things that have been happening. But it is also nice to sometimes just be a regular audience member and sit up in the gods, getting a feel for how people really see the shows.
One of my new years resolutions is to try to work more with understudies. These people don’t get the limelight they deserve sometimes and so I want to make an effort to go and see them perform when they are on and if I can, review their performance (so if you’re an understudy, alternate or swing and want me to come see you – get in touch!).
A lot of us theatre lovers champion understudies and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a bit of coverage for the hard work they are putting in. Also, I think if we start to talk about understudies more often and review their performances, then it may not come as such a disappointment when people go to see the ‘star performer’ and actually get an understudy because they might have read something about them online.
Anyway, I’m not going anywhere (sorry) but am just busily working away at what I love… theatre (and Celebrity Big Brother which I might have to start a separate blog about!)
