Carley Stenson has Tea With Wilma talking about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Carley Stenson - Tea with Wilma 1For those who may not be familiar with your work, can you give me a little rundown of some of your career highlights so far?
I have been fortunate enough to work on Hollyoaks for 10 years; play Elle woods in Legally Blonde; Fiona in Shrek and Lady of the Lake in Spamalot all in the West End. I really enjoyed being a guest actor in channel 5 improvised criminal drama ‘Suspects’. Nowadays I have fun being a Dirty Rotten Scoundrel on Tour.

You are currently starring in the UK tour of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. For anyone not familiar with the story, what is the show about and what character do you play?
I play Christine Colegate in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It is based on the 80’s film with Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Two very different con artists competing over one naive heiress for love and money. It is very very funny.

Do you have any dream stage roles that you would like to have a go at playing?
I would have loved to play Molly in Ghost and Princess Amneris in Aida.

If you could be the opposite sex for the day, which male theatre role would you like to play?
I’ve never seen the musical but adored the film of Catch Me If You Can and have heard that that’s a cracking role. Comedy and drama with big songs. Of course I would wanna give Val Jean a go too haha!

Have you ever had any funny/disastrous on-stage experiences?
Before I started this job of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels I had only a few hiccups on stage! Forgetting lines and tripping over etc but now I work with Michael Praed and Noel Sullivan in ‘this’ type of comedy. Every day is an adventure of adlibbing and including the audience. Even singing happy birthday to one once.

Why do you think people should come and see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels?
I have heard so many people say ‘I want to bring my friend and come again’ or ‘I wasn’t sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it’. It’s laugh outloud belly ache funny. The dancing and singing is superb and the boys work so well together it’s a joy to watch.
