Spanish Tapas restaurant El Pirata has been serving Mayfair customers for over 22 years with authentic Spanish food. Tucked away on Down Street, in the middle of Mayfair, El Pirata offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that feels more Madrid than Mayfair and the prices are very reasonable too.
The menu offers more than 60 different tapas dishes and over 140 Spanish wines, signature dishes include Calamares con arroz negro (black rice and squid); Langostines al chef (grilled king prawns in a sauce of tomato, garlic and white wine) and of course Bellota Jamon, ham from free range Black Iberian Pigs – the best jamon from Spain. Alongside tapas El Pirata also offers larger, traditional dishes including Cochinillo a la traditional (roasted suckling pig with potatoes in a traditional style) and Lubina a la Espalda (whole butterfly sea bass grilled, with garlic and chilli, olive oil, sherry vinegar and served with fresh beans and pobre potatoes).
The service is great. Warm, friendly and helpful, whilst also giving you the space you want to enjoy your meal. The decor is lovely, with abstract paintings hanging off the wall and giving a very rustic feel to the place.
