Flick and Julie: Pop Up Penny Pinchers – Leicester Square Theatre (Lounge)

gemma-laytonFlick and Julie are a comedy duo who rose to fame with the YouTube video ‘Shopping In Lidl’, set to the tune of ‘Walking In Memphis’ which had over 1.3million views back in 2013.

Now, ahead of their shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the pop-up penny pinchers are playing at the Leicester Square Theatre Lounge to spread word to the masses on how to get the best deals on shopping, as well as how to deal with life in prison and their (slightly obsessive) love for Martin Lewis.

The show is an hour of fun, with raffle prizes and sing-a-long comedy rewrites of songs like Pulp’s ‘Common People’ and Bewitched’s ‘C’est La Vie’ (complete with Irish dancing).

The duo may not have West End standard singing voices or the most melodic of song writing skills but in the name of comedy, none of it matters. It is entertaining, funny and informative.

Definitely worth a watch if you can catch them up at Edinburgh Fringe. Sadly, there was no ‘Shopping In Lidl’ performance, which I was hoping to hear live so for now I will have to have a sing-a-long to the video. Why don’t you join in too?
