Around Christmas last year I posted my best and worst theatre shows that I saw in 2013. One of my top 6 was The Commitments, a stage adaption of Roddy Doyle’s 1987 novel (and 1991 film) about growing up in Dublin, where times are hard and music is the only thing the youngsters live for.
I had the pleasure of going back to see the show a show a few weeks ago and it was even more fun than I remembered! The music is loud, soulful, gritty and rocky with hit after hit that you will know and love (James Brown, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin) and the cast give the show a real party atmosphere by dancing in the isles during the songs.
Don’t miss Killian Donelly playing the lead role of Deco before he leaves on 14 September 2014 to go and star in Memphis alongside Beverley Knight (who leaves The Bodyguard this Saturday). Read my recent interview with Killian here about The Commitments.
