Hung Yung Terrarist brings a nervous breakdown to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your performing background?
I am afraid I cannot.

Tell me about your show, what it is all about?
My show isn’t meant to make sense, so I don’t advise my audience to try to ‘put a bow’ on it. But they can expect the unexpected, and they’ll experience variety, music, cabaret, comedy, sketch and avant-garde performance art. It’s really a counter-culture collection of vignettes, poems and musical selections from my last 4 records, and I like to think it’s an explosive production that will peel cabbages back so far they are only held on by a thin flap of skin! So there you go…..Come and enjoy!

How long have you been working on this show and what is it that makes it relevant to audiences in 2018?
I have been working on the show since 2015. I think people are obsessed with the idea of relevance, and what’s relevant changes so often, making it irrelevant.

Do you have any top tips for surviving the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – both for performers and visitors to the event?
This is my first time and I am prepared for death.

What has been the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you on stage?
When my lavalier mic battery pack traveled during the course of a show down between my ass cheeks underneath my jeans cos my sound guy couldn’t figure out how to clip it on when I was paying him $275 per show to handle the sound. I didn’t discover how shit my rump looked till I saw myself in the dressing room after the show. I presume I was immunized from the horror during the show by adrenalin.

Who are your biggest inspirations in the industry and why?
I feel like I’m over everyone. I think I’ve met too many heroes.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
If I told you, I’d have to lock up your mouth and throw away the key.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at Edinburgh Fringe?
I’m looking forward to seeing Zombie Joe’s “Urban Death.” I originally birthed my show with Zombie Joe of Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre.

Why do you think people should come and see your show over the thousands of others on at the Fringe?
I think people should do whatever the hell they want to do. I can only do so much.
