Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your performing background?
I have been a performer for over 20 years, and a director through challenges the last 10.
Tell me about your show, what it is all about?
The show is based upon a true story, with a gender switch. The show takes us on a journey about a young black woman who rises to power in the industry, while battling addiction and sexuality.
How long have you been working on this show and what is it that makes it relevant to audiences in 2018?
We have been working on this show for about 4 years; and this is the international premiere. As a show about understanding Addiction, mental health is a big deal in todays society.
Do you have any top tips for surviving the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – both for performers and visitors to the event?
See as many shows as you can; and don’t be afraid to be out of your element. The show that sounds the worst; is the one that usually ends up being great.
What has been the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you on stage?
The most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me is highlighted in this very show – hitting rock bottom with my addiction; and loosing everything – family and friends.
Who are your biggest inspirations in the industry and why?
Stephen Adley Guirgis is a big one for me as a theatrical playwright. His works that tell the truth, but aren’t afraid to explore and push boundaries – is something I aspire to be. On the acting side Meryl Streep and Ewan McGregor.
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Prayer, and a phone call or text to family. They are my center.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at Edinburgh Fringe?
RENT, SpideGlass, Girlworld, Match.
Why do you think people should come and see your show over the thousands of others on at the fringe?
Our show is unique, and presented as an immersive theatre experience with a few surprise elements along the way. We also battle a topic not talked about enough – Sex Addiction; and present it from both sides of the equation.
