West End performer Louise Plowright suddenly withdrew from the cast of the London production of Wicked back in 2013 (where she was playing Madame Morrible) after she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
Back in December 2015, the West End joined together for a A Merry Christmas Cabaret in aid of Louise Plowright and Pancreatic Cancer Research, CRUK. Over £140,000 was raised toward providing potentially life saving treatment for Louise. Mamma Mia producer Judy Cramer showed her support to Louise (who played the role of Donna for three years) by donating a substantial amount towards the cause.
Sadly, in a statement released yesterday, it was announced that Louise lost her battle with Cancer and passed away.
‘Dear wonderful supporters of Louise.
I am so sorry to have to let you know that an hour ago we lost Louise to that horrid disease. All of her family were with her.
‘The world has lost a truly special person, prodigiously talented, and a friend to all.
‘Can I thank all of you who joined us in this battle and who helped Louise to have hope.’
I never personally met Louise but she had a huge influence on many people over the years and this is a sad day for the West End.
