Revival of Stephen Sondheim’s MARRY ME A LITTLE to open in London next month

A new professional production of Stephen Sondheim’s Marry Me A Little will play a strictly limited three week run Off-West End next month.

This beautiful two-hander from 1980 features songs cut from – among others – the original productions of A Little Night Music, Follies, and Company, and was developed by Craig Lucas (whose book-writing credits include The Light In The Piazza and An American In Paris) and Norman René.

Set in the late 1970s and told entirely through Sondheim’s music with no dialogue, the show follows the memories and fantasies of two lonely hearts, regularly alone in their New York studio apartments with only the New York Times for company. Little do they know that they’re just a floor away from each other and the end of their lonely dreams. It’s a funny, sophisticated and moving evening, and a fascinating look at “the songs that got away”

The show, produced by Euphonia Studio at Kensington’s Drayton Arms Theatre, stars an all-American cast: Stephanie Schmalzle (previously a Fellow at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington DC) and Keith Merrill (whose previous work includes Mordred in a US national tour of Camelot). Pianist Jonathan Musgrave (‘singular virtuosity’ -The Independent’) accompanies.

Both stage and music are directed by Alisdair Kitchen, whose recent production of Hedda Gabler at the same venue received five-star praise: ‘gripping, weirdly beautiful and deeply, achingly human’ ( Alisdair says: ‘Euphonia Studio are thrilled to be producing this gorgeous musical. It’s the first chance for London audiences to see it in a few years, and every song is a jewel’.

Marry Me A Little is a Euphonia Studio production in partnership with Rye Arts Festival, plays Tuesdays to Saturdays (including Saturday matinees) at The Drayton Arms Theatre from May 8th to 26th. Book tickets (£14-16) at .
