REVIEW: COURTNEY ACT: UNDER THE COVERS (Underbelly Festival) ★★★★★

Drag Race, Big Brother UK, Dancing with the Stars and now her one woman show! Courtney Act is no stranger to the UK having won Big Brother and what a welcome she got when she opened her show back in the pop up venue at udderbelly!

Under The Covers is a 1 hour show of stand up comedy, singing (covers? Get it?) and even dancing with Loose hipped- ballroom champ Curtis Pritchard! Accompanied by a live band, the show is full of everything you would expect of a seasoned drag pro; singing, dancing, comedy, quick costume changes, wig reveals, audience interaction: the lot! However something I didn’t expect was the message Courtney seamlessly provided regarding her relationship with Chaz Bono (son of Sonny and Cher) and the stance she has on gender fluidity.

Courtney talked of being the first male to dance with a male on national TV when he, Shane, performed with male dance partner Joshua Kefee as himself and not as Courtney. Iconic, no? The show really is sensational, if you enjoyed watching Courtney on Drag Race, you’ll know of her talent and whit and you shan’t be disappointed, you will however be surprised with what else she can do.

The audience lapped it up, and someone of Courtney’s covers, with reworked lyrics were wide splitting, including her version of Valerie being about Miss Vanjie. If you fancy a a fun evening in a beautiful location in the hands of a star, go watch! Having spoken with Courtney briefly after the show it’s evident she enjoys performing for us as much as we enjoy watching.
