Liza Pulman delivers an evening of glorious entertainment with stories, funny anecdotes and a stunning 5-piece band while celebrating the carer and music of the diva Barbra Streisand at The Other Palace in Victoria.
The first thing to acknowledge, which Pulman does herself at the beginning of the show, is that this is NOT a tribute act or an impersonation, it is an evening that Pulman has created in honour of the legend that is Streisand.
The stage is set and an inviting atmosphere waits as we enter the auditorium. Pulman bounds onto the stage with energy and a passion that is highly refreshing.
Selecting some of the lesser-known hits of Streisand we start our journey learning about the early days of Barbra Streisand’s carer alongside some wonderful musical arrangements with a unique twist by Musical Director Joseph Atkins.
It’s at this point that it’s worth mentioning the 5-piece live band. On top of the great vocals from Pulman the band are absolutely fantastic and on point. There are some truly magical instrumental moments from some incredible musicians throughout the evening.
It’s clear that Pulman has vocal strength and agility and takes each number with ease and grace. You can hear the operatic training in her voice and she never misses a note and delivers the big money numbers creating some truly spine tingling moments.
This is a lovely concert of music delivered in a very polished and intimate manner. From classic hits to big band numbers this evening of song will not disappoint. If you’re a Streisand fan, or even if you’re not but enjoy a well put together concert, get yourself along to The Other Palace on 28th October or 11th November (other UK dates available).
