Musical Theatre boyband The Barricade Boys have taken over the studio at The Other Palace for a three week residency this Christmas. The boys (who have all starred in Les Miserables at one time or another) have been travelling around the world this year but are back in London spreading festive cheer and inviting some very special guests to join them throughout the month.
The Barricade Boys (Scott Garnham, Simon Schofield, Kieran Brown, Craig Mather) perform a nice mixture of well arranged Musical Theatre classics and christmas favourites. Les Mis favourites I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home, Master of the House and One Day More and pop numbers by the Blues Brothers, Michael Jackson, Bonjovi and Queen. Christmas classics range from Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, White Christmas and Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! to a fun rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, roping in that night’s special guest performer Michael Xavier.
Having seen The Barricade Boys at both the Hippodrome Casino and The Charing Cross Theatre previously, The Other Palace Studio space feels much more intimate and suits the style of the band much better, and engages the audience much more nicely.
The banter between songs is scripted well and despite there being a lot of ‘dad jokes’, the comedy suits the audience The Barricade Boys seems to appeal to and can’t be faulted. The show is simple, yet effective and leaves you feeling warm and festive. Their best show yet!
