It’s Cougar’s birthday. He’s having a party. And the gift he’d kill for is… youth.
In a strange room in East London the party preparations are under way. The festivities are planned with detailed perfection — the specially made cake, the neatly written cards and the imminent arrival of a hand-picked guest of honour. Surely nothing can go wrong?
From the acclaimed writer of ‘The Pitchfork Disney’, ‘Shivered’ and The Old Red Lion’s 2011 sell-out production of ‘Mercury Fur’ comes Philip Ridley’s edgy and provocative drama. The play caused a sensation when it premiered at the Hampstead Theatre in 1992, winning the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Newcomer to the stage and the Meyer Whitworth Prize. The play is now regarded as a contemporary classic. TREMers in association with Dréim Productions bring this exciting revival to the Old Red Lion in November to celebrate the play’s 21st Anniversary and will be directed by Tom O’Brien.
“Ridley combines Grand Guignol with outrageous black comedy to tremendous theatrical effect…horror has rarely been such fun.” The Daily Telegraph
“Nasty, gripping stuff.” Time Out (Time Out – No 1 Critics Choice)
